Egypt Restores Samples of Stolen Pieces From Cheops Pyramid

At 146 meters tall, the Cheops pyramid in the Giza area, west of Cairo, is considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, built some 4,500 years ago.

The Egyptian embassy in Berlin will receive on Friday the samples of King Khufu's (Cheops) cartouche that were stolen a year ago by two German researchers, Antiquities Minister Mamdouh El-Damaty said on 08/14/2014.

Damaty thanked German government for cooperation with Egypt to restore the stolen samples, which are subject to the Ancient Monuments Protection Law of 1983.

The ministry said German authorities opened an investigation into the case. The Minister also thanked the Egyptian embassy's staffers for their efforts in this file. Efforts are underway to bring the culprits to trial under the international law, the minister said.
